Moreland Baptist Church was previously known as the West Coburg – West Moreland Baptist Church, being formed by the union of those two churches in 1975.
With their beginnings in the 1920s, the churches served the rapidly expanding North-West region of Melbourne where many new homes were being built and families begun.
The churches soon became known for their extensive Sunday School and Youth work, boasting many sporting clubs and social activities.
By contemporary standards, however, the churches never gained large memberships: peaking in the 1960s at some 110 members each before declining to the point where a shared ministry and eventual union was most appropriate.
Over the last decades the church has found itself in a changing social context, with varied cultural groups becoming more visible, a growing proportion of older people, and a sprinkling of new families settling once again in the area.
It is with a sense of the old and new that the church seeks to renew its worship and work, and continue the story.
